Happy Thanksgiving!! Wishing you the happiness of good friends, the joy of a happy family, and the wonder of the holiday season. Have a magical thanksgiving! Hope you enjoy your turkey and all the fixin's today. My family will be coming plus a few other friends to give thanks with us. I love Thanksgiving!! I just wish my son and his family could be with us but they will be in my thoughts all day.
Here's a chuckle for you today -
When I was a young turkey, new to the coop,
My big brother Mike took me out on the stoop,
Then he sat me down, and he spoke real slow,
And he told me there was something that I had to know;
His look and his tone I will always remember,
When he told me of the horrors of..... Black November;
"Come about August, now listen to me,
Each day you'll get six meals instead of just three,
"And soon you'll be thick, where once you were thin,
And you'll grow a big rubbery thing under your chin;
"And then one morning, when you're warm in your bed,
In'll burst the farmer's wife, and hack off your head;
"Then she'll pluck out all your feathers so you're bald 'n pink,
And scoop out all your insides and leave ya lyin' in the sink;
"And then comes the worst part!" he said not bluffing,
"She'll spread your cheeks and pack your rear with stuffing".
Well, the rest of his words were too grim to repeat,
I sat on the stoop like a winged piece of meat,
And decided on the spot that to avoid being cooked,
I'd have to lay low and remain overlooked;
I began a new diet of nuts and granola,
High-roughage salads, juice and diet cola;
And as they ate pastries, chocolates and crepes,
I stayed in my room doing Jane Fonda tapes;
I maintained my weight of two pounds and a half,
And tried not to notice when the bigger birds laughed;
But 'twas I who was laughing, under my breath,
As they chomped and they chewed, ever closer to death;
And sure enough when Black November rolled around,
I was the last turkey left in the entire compound;
So now I'm a pet in the farmer's wife's lap;
I haven't a worry! , so I eat and I nap;
She held me today, while sewing and humming,
And smiled at me and said: "Christmas is coming..."

Stamp Club Projects
These are the projects we made this week at Stamp Club. The angels were a big hit using the Sizzix Bow Die. I did a search on the internet and found several different versions and mine are a combo of several different ones.

I just love these colors - Coastal Cabana, Pumpkin Pie and Brown Sugar. I used the single stamp, Magnificant Maple and Gorgeous Grunge to make the background on the thinlit card. |

Merry Warm Wishes
I found a card similar to this one on the web. It's one of my favorites using the Snowy Day stamp set. Most people use that set to make the snowman but there is more to the stamp than just a snowman! I like to use a stamp set for more than just one thing and this is one of those sets. I really love the framelits and hope we will be getting more words soon!
I was happy on Sunday to see my Steelers WIN - I didn't expect it but I was happy to take the loss in my football pool. Last year I came in 2nd in the football pool (Sonny came in 1st) and got the $$ winnings. This year there is no way either one of us will come close to winning. My picks have just not been on target this year. Now if the Panthers can pull it off ... watching the game now - 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter and tied up. Come on Panthers!

Fall Leaves
Fall - what a beautiful season! I was pulling into our driveway one day last week and had to stop the car and take this picture of our house hidden by the trees with all the leaves that have fallen in the yard and in the driveway. These leaves keep Sonny busy! It's really hard to see our driveway when we are backing out ... in fact, last year I ran into one of trees because I couldn't make out where the driveway was and where the yard was. We work our leaf blower overtime!!

This is the backyard right after Sonny blew all the leaves off the yard. Note how tall they stacked up on the edges of the yard, |

Almost looks like it could be a ski slope - imagine that the leaves could be snow drifts!! |

Modern Medley Overlay
If I had finished this card in time, I could have mailed it to my son. Today is his birthday. It is hard to believe my "baby" is 35 years old!! Wow! How time flies. Seems like just yesterday he was making sandwiches for the guys in our neighborhood who were building new homes on our street. He would make peanut butter sandwiches and take them to the construction workers and have lunch with them! That was in the days that we didn't have to worry if our child went down the street to play. I know there were predators but they just didn't seem to be every where like they are now. I called him earlier to wish him a happy birthday. He told me it was easy to remember how old he, my mom and myself are - Jeff & I are 30 years apart and add another 20 for my mom! Makes it easy, huh???
My MDS birthday card for the Paper Craft Crew challenge this week is made using red and black. I love that color combo!
I used a recent stamp that I purchased. It is the Modern Medley Overlay. I used the music notes - making one of the overlays black over the white card stock and the other one white over the black card stock. For "smile" I did the first one in black; copied it and pasted it directly on top and changed the color to Red. Then I just used my arrow keys to move the word over so it looked like it shadowed the black one.
Check out the great cards the rest of the crew made HERE.

Salute to our troops on Veterans Day
Happy Veterans Day to all those who are serving our country or who have served our country with their service.
I read this article in Sunday's Parade Magazine and thought it worth sharing today. Perhaps there is something in the list that you can do to show your appreciation for our veterans and those still in uniform.
- Upgrade a soldier's helmet
For $35, you can provide a service member cushioning helmet pads to help protect against traumatic brain injury.
operation-helmet.org - Foster a companion animal
Pets for Vets pairs shelter dogs with veterans in an effort to ease the emotional wounds of war. Volunteers are needed to offer foster care for rescues, as are professional trainers to prepare the dogs for their new roles.
pets-for-vets.com - Help throw a baby shower
Celebrate an expectant mom whose husband is deployed or injured by sending a gift or volunteering in person at a party hosted by Operation Shower.
operationshower.org - Mail a care package
Look up specific requests for reading material, DVDs, games, and relief supplies from service members in all five branches of the military; pack the items with a letter of thanks and ship them off.
booksforsoldiers.com - Tune in to Tim McGraw
As part of his initiative with Chase and Operation Homefront to provide mortgage-free homes for vets and service members in need, the country star is performing a concert tonight for military families, to air on the Pentagon channel and on his website (8:45 p.m. ET).
timmcgraw.com - Support a Mission Continues fellow
The Mission Continues fellowship program allows post-9/11 veterans to continue serving at home by volunteering for 26 weeks with organizations like Habitat for Humanity and American Red Cross. Your donation can help vets finds ways to channel their skills as they transition back to the civilian world.
Missioncontinues.org - Share your points
Transfer your hotel rewards points to Fisher House Foundation’s “Hotels for Heroes” program, which provides accommodations to the families of military service members who are undergoing medical treatment.
Fisherhouse.org - Offer a vet a ride
Join the VA’s Volunteer Transportation Network and you can drive veterans to and from their appointments for services.
Volunteer.va.gov - Donate gifts for kids in Iraq and Afghanistan
Operation Give collects toys and school and art supplies that our troops can then distribute to to local children in the areas where they are serving.
Operationgive.org - Share your expertise
Sign up to teach a class or be a mentor to wounded veterans interested in exploring business opportunities after they leave the hospital.
100entproject.org - Send a holiday card
To date, amillionthanks.org has delivered more than six million letters to service members and veterans. This holiday season, express your appreciation for our troops with a festive card containing a personal message or prayer, postmarked by December 1. http://www.amillionthanks.org/
