Itsie Bitsie Spider

I've had a little bit of time this weekend to make a few cards.  Yay!!  I decided to make a few Halloween cards.  This is the first one using one of my favorite stamps, Jar of Love.  My sister would not like this card as she hates spiders!!  Can't you just imagine all these itty bitty spiders crawling out of the little jar??!!

After taking the picture of the card, I decided it needed just a little bit of color.  So, I pulled out my dauber and put a little red ink on the brick wall.

I used Jar of Love and Goulish Grounge for this card.  When it came to the spiders though, I was stumped.  I didn't buy Jar of Haunts (should have!) which has a little spider so I went in search of a spider.  I finally found one in a retired set, Happy Scenes (from last year) and used it.  But, if you have Jar of Haunts, Mr. Funny Bones, OR Spooky Fun, you are in luck!  All three have a spider in them!  I don't usually do many Halloween cards so only bought one set, Cookie Cutter Halloween and mainly for the scarecrow.

Sonny and I went to the movies yesterday and saw Deepwater Horizon.  It was really good.  It is a dramatization of the April 2010 disaster when the offshore drilling rig, Deepwater Horizon, exploded and created the worst oil spill in U.S. history.  If you get a chance, go see it.

Sunday was football Sunday and we went to Big Al's in Mooresville to watch the Steelers beat the NY Jets.  I think this might have been our last time to watch football at Big Al's.  We have been going there for 10+ years on Sunday.  They moved this summer to a bigger and much nicer facility but it is like pulling teeth to get them to put the Steeler game on a TV that is easy for us to see.  There are 5 TVs on the wall that our table faces.  Today 2 of them were on the Steeler game.  When we got there, they had 3 of the TVs tuned to the game.  When we asked them to put it on the larger screen, they did but took the game off the other two TVs (that no one cared about watching!)   When you look around the bar, there may be a couple of table who do not have Steeler gear on but the rest of the restaurant is in black and gold.  They advertise themselves as a Steelers bar and have big signs inside and outside for the Steelers, but they aren't willing to accommodate the fans who come in there.

Well, gonna tune in to the debate and see what crazy things come out of Hilary and Donald's mouths tonight!  Should be interesting.

Halloween Self Closing Bags

This week was my husband's "guys get away."  He and his friends go a couple of times a year (spring and fall) to Georgetown to go skeet shooting.  It is a fun time for him .... and a fun time for me!  Margaret and Graham come down and Graham goes with Sonny and Margaret and I are on our own for a few days to play in my stamp room.  We took full advantage of it this week too!  We went to a comedy club with friends on Tuesday night at the Galway Hooker in Huntersville and that was a lot of fun.  There was a couple in the group from England so Margaret was right at home visiting with them.  The comedian was one of the best I have heard at the Hooker and didn't feel a need to use dirty language constantly.  In fact, I don't think I ever heard a swear word from him.  I am not a prude, but it seems that comedians feel the need to use the "F" word a lot in their act and it is just not funny.  Margaret worked on the cards from my October Stamp Club while I finished up the shoebox cards from last week's quarterly.  I showed Margaret a cute Self Closing Bag that I had made at Allison's a few months ago and she went to town making them for her family for Halloween.

We got the instructions from a video on Dawn Griffiths's blog.  As you can tell, after she did the first one, she found them easy to make!

Today is Sonny's birthday (69th!!)  After dropping off Margaret and Graham, I treated Sonny to lunch at a deli/restaurant in Langtree Village.  After his week of travels and eating a lot, he did not want to do much.  My sandwich was delicious - their version of a BLT.  It had bacon, arugula, fried green tomato and pimento cheese on a grilled ciabatta roll!  No one else in my family would have enjoyed it but I sure did!  Here is the card I made for Sonny for his birthday using some paper I bought several years ago.  He has several of the "Old Guys Rule" tees.

Craft Project Central Mix and Match Boxes

Lots to share with you today.  But first I want to share with you the second project for this month from Craft Project Central designed by Yapha Mason.  You can find the instructions at Craft Project Central.

Mix & Match Winter Holiday Boxes & Tags

This festive holiday packaging includes four different size square boxes along with four gift tags that can be mixed and matched.  Using shades of blue and silver, there are options for both Hanukkah and Christmas, with designs that will work for either one.  The project also includes instructions for two square holiday cards as well.

Friday night I dressed up for Halloween.  We went over to some neighbors and sat out in their cul-de-sac with a fire going roasting marshmallows and eating Halloween candy as we passed it out to the trick-or-treaters.  We had a couple of hours of visiting before the rain forced everyone inside.  Sonny and drove in to Mooresville where we were supposed to go to party but Sonny didn't want to go so we ended up at Duckworth's instead.

Sunday night we cheerfully cheered on our Steelers!  Again, another great game and records broken. For the second straight week, Ben Roethlisberger is a nominee for the FedEx Player of the Week!

Monday our Texas friends, Margaret and Graham, arrived.  Sonny and Graham left early this morning to go to S.C. skeet shooting with a group of Golden Boys.  So Margaret and I will be crafting away for a couple of days!

Holiday Home MDS style!

The sketch for Paper Craft Crew this week is very similar to one we did a couple of weeks ago.  In fact, I emailed the gal in charge to ask if it was a repeat!  I don't think she had realized that she had put the two sketches so close together.  I decided to make this week's card a Halloween card.  It's funny - when I first looked at the Holiday Catalog, the stamp set with the houses, Holiday Home, was not on my list at all.  But after seeing all the cute cards that everyone is making with this set, I had to get it.  Not only did I order it as a Clear Stamp, but I also ordered the digital stamp too!  Here is the digital card I made for the challenge:

I have been working on my calendars for 2015 and I also used this set for October.  This is my favorite so far!  I followed a tutorial on-line and learned a lot of new tricks for this page.  (An old dog can learn new tricks!)

I will be offering my calendars for sale.  They are $20 which includes the wooden holder for $10 for refills.  The calendars are 6x6.

Label Card Thinlit and Weekly Deals

Since the Label Card Thinlits Die is on sale in the Weekly Deals this week, I decided to make a Halloween card to showcase the die.

I turned the Label sideways.  I cut the bat's wings freehand and used the Owl Punch for the body.  He's hanging upside down on the branch from the Bird Punch.

There are some great deals this week in the Weekly Deals - even a stamp set from the Holiday Catalog!!  Whoo Hoo!!  And it's one I've had my eye on too.

Halloween Fry Box

Time for the weekly specials from Stampin' Up.  Remember, these are available through next Monday.

It's time to start thinking about making treats for the kids for Halloween.  This is a swap I received at convention that I thought was really cute.  It uses the Fry Box Die found on page 233.

And here is another that I found on Pinterest:

Happy Halloween

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

How is that for a cutie pie?  This is my nephew's little boy and is he cute!!

We have a low key Halloween at our house.  We don't get any trick or treaters at our door so I don't even buy candy or turn my lights on!  Halloween used to be one of my favorite holidays.  I would go all out with decorating the house when my kids were little - inside and out.  But now ... not so much.  Plus I don't have to sacrifice my diet by eating all the candy that Ashley and Jeff would bring home.  Ashley doesn't like chocolate so Sonny, Jeff and I would get all that goodness.  I can close my eyes and picture them coming home from trick or treating in their cute outfits and dumping their buckets out on the floor and then bargaining with each other and trading candy.  When they went to bed, Sonny and I had the job of testing the candy to make sure it was ok for them to eat!!

This year I did make a cute Halloween picture that I framed and have sitting in my kitchen.  I used paper, punches, stickers, embellishments, etc. that I found in my stash.

This was one of my favorite squares - candy corn made from the Pennant die.

Frankenstein looks pretty scary too - a little punch art and a black Sharpie helped.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Boston Red Sox for winning the World Series tonight!  We have friends that are really happy about now.

Paper Craft MDS Card

It's time for another Paper Pals sketch challenge.   Again, I used My Digital Studio to create this fun Halloween card.

I used Candid Frames for the photo strip frames and inserted the Halloween images in the frames.  I used a strip of designer paper for my ribbon.  All in all, a pretty easy card this week.

Today was one of my stamp club days.  Joy was the only one who came today so we had a one-to-one stamping day.  A couple of the gals were out of town and another gal had a dr. apt and will be coming on Thursday.  But, Joy and I had fun.  After she finished the cards and muslin bag, she cut and stamped some leaves and letters so she can make a Fall plaque like the one HERE.  I can't wait to see her finished project!  She did her little muslin bag so cute.  Instead of making it for Halloween, she used the dauber and did red polka dots and did her initial (J) in the center.  I'll be sharing the picture I took of it later.  We came up with the idea that the little muslin bags would make a cute little tooth bag for the grandkids.

Envelope Punch Board Projects

I am having such fun with the Envelope Punch Board.  Not only can you make all sizes of envelopes but I've also made tags and file folder cards with the board.

Envelope Punch Board

I watched a video on Patty Bennett's blog for the file folder cards.  Here is a card I made for a friend's birthday next week.  I used a SU DSP stack that is retired.  The "happy birthday" is a die that I have had for a long time.  Believe me, it is not as easy to use as Stampin' Up's thinlits!!

I used my new Wetlands stamp set for the birds.  Love it!  I stamped the little birds in Baked Brown Sugar.  I think this was the first time I used this color.  I tend to go to Soft Suede automatically and forgot all about Baked Brown Sugar.

Today I also made these cute tags using the Envelope Punch Board.  I found a U Tube tutorial that I had pinned to Pinterest.  Check it out HERE if you want to make these little tags.

This is the tag and a little tag holder that I made

Everything on this project was made with the Punch Board.  It is a handy little tool!

Halloween Canvas

I'm ready for Halloween!  I had so much fun making these mixed media Halloween canvases this week.  Carrie Cudney demonstrated some that she had made when we were at Convention.  They are 6x6 artist canvas that I purchased from a local arts and crafts store (on sale!)  It's hard to tell but each one of them started out with a layer of the retired newsprint DSP.  I used Modge Podge to adhere them to the canvas and then put a coat of Modge Podge over them.  I mixed a little paint and reinkers and had fun kinda finger painting!  The ghost and pumpkin are also cut from the DSP.  On the owl, I used cardstock.  I pretty much free handed the figures.  I used a Sharpie marker to outline everything.  I just went through some of my scraps and found bits and pieces to add to each one.  I really like how they turned out and think they will look cute on my mantel in October!

Halloween Canvas

Carrie Cudney taught a class during convention where she showed some samples of mixed media art that she created using Stampin' Up products and DSP.  These were photos I took of Carrie's samples. They were done on a 6" canvas but she made into the ghost into a card also, They were just too cute not to share.  I plan on getting some canvas-es (??) and making my own soon!

Holiday Catty Live Today!!

The Holiday Catalog goes live TODAY!!  You'll notice the layout is a little different than what you're used to....I like that the front of the catalog is like a magazine, and the back is the catalog.  Took me a few times to get used to this, but I love the inspiration that is in the magazine!!!

To view PDF, Click HERE
Download the Stampin’ Supplies List HERE

The Holiday catalog is LIVE and available to order from!  If you have ordered from me in the past year, you should have received one in the mail.  They do get lost or thrown out by husbands :) so if you have not received yours, please email me with your name and mailing address so I can mail you one!

See the catalog come to life!  See page 5 of Holiday catalog for details.  You can download the free app called LAYAR in your APP store  or Google Play.  When you see the red icon in the catalog, scan the catalog page and it unlocks a special video showing you more about that product!  (for me, I had to touch my screen when I saw a video come up then it played)   If you don’t have a mobile device, you can visit www.stampinup.com/showmehow

I’m over the top excited for these new THINLITS card dies!  They’ve been called flip cards, flip flop cards, swing cards, and more-but they have always been a bit tricky to create. Not anymore! Our amazing new Thinlits Card Dies cut and score to create a card that flips in just one step. 2 sets to choose from, Label and Circle.  (Check out my previous blog posting about them HERE)

Here they are in action -

With a new month, we have a new "BEST OF" stamp set.  For August, we have best of Halloween.  I don't know about you, but I love that spooky tree with the owl in it!!
