August Stamp Club

Busy week for me (as you can guess from the lack of posts!).  I played bridge on Monday.  Then Tuesday, learned of the death of a husband of one of the gals in our bridge group.  Pete had been in and out of hospitals and rehab for 5 years with kidney disease but still, it was a shock.  Last night we went to a party at a friend's new house in our neighborhood.  Wouldn't you know it, an hour before the party was to start, it started raining.  We need the rain but it sure ruined the plans of those who had planned to boat over to Anna's house!  Luckily, her house is huge so there was plenty of room inside for everyone and even outside in the covered areas.  It was a lot of fun.  This has also been Stamp Club week although my numbers have dwindled drastically this week.  I ended up having a total of 4 people this week.  But we had fun anyway!  Here are the cards we made this week.

This card was one I received last spring in a swap made by Melissa Kernan.  It was a different use of the stamp set, Sheltering Tree.  The only change I made was to emboss the Mossy Meadow piece with the new Woodlands embossing folder from the Holiday Catalog,

This set uses the Paper Pumpkin set I bought at convention.  Love the gift bag, card and matching envelope!

Another CASE from Pinterest.  I thought the upside ice cream cones fit the sentiment great!!

This is a new set that I just purchased.  It is in the annual catalog - You're Sublime.  I just love the cute images in this set!  I haven't decided which is my favorite.  I think this set will make really cute little note card sets.  I used DSP from the Subtles Stack and let each person choose which image they wanted to make.

My $200 Shopping Spree order arrived yesterday while I was gone along with a $100 order that I had placed - all from the Holiday Catalog!!  I can't wait to start playing with all the new goodies!

I worked some magic today with my July Paper Pumpkin kit.  Sara Douglas demonstrated on stage at convention some note cards and a cute  box she had made with her kit so I did the same.  Then I made several boxes and 10 cards from the kit.  AND I still have stuff left over to make more!  This month's kit was a real bargain.

These are 6 notecards that I made by cutting the cards included in the kit in half.

I masked the stars (punched out the stars and used them already) and using my daubers, sponged them onto my cards.

Six boxes came in the kit.  I cut the top and side flaps off this one to use to hold my note cards.

Front of the note card box

I decorated the other 5 boxes to use for little gifts.  For this one, I punched a few scallop circles, misted them with water, scrunched them up and made a flower.

The other 4 boxes all using materials from the kit (except for the "Merry Christmas" stamp - it is from a Paper Pumpkin kit from last year.

2 of the cards I made.  Note the banners and scallop circle - these were made from the box pieces that I cut up!
Waste not - want not!

2 more of the cards

2 more cards - the top one uses a "grunge background" stamp from an earlier Paper Pumpkin.

2 more cards - On the top card, I used the negative of WISH and sponged Blackberry Bliss on the card.

2 more cards.  For the top card, I sponged the vertical lines using one of the templates on pg 205.
These were a lot of fun to make!

June Paper Pumpkin and Weekly Deals

This week's deals include some great prices on FRAMELITS!!  I'm ordering the Envelope Liners this time since I have put it off in the past.  What about you?  I have seen some great projects on Pinterest using them for things other than just lining your envelope.  Check out this link - HERE

I received my June Paper Pumpkin last week.  This month it is all about patriotic pinwheels and it was a box chocked full of them!  The kit contained 3 stamps, an ink spot, 24 pre-cut pinwheels, 24 red and white paper straws, 20 banners, 24 cello bags, Basic Gray Baker's Twine, 24 silver brads, 24 silver clips and 96 glue dots .... that's a lot packed into a little box!  I put together several of the pinwheels this morning (in about 15 minutes) and put them in a Mason jar.  At STamp Club Tuesday, each person took one home with them.  They were really cute.

I took one of the pinwheels and cut it down (before making the pinwheel) about 2 inches and made a spinner card with it.

I'm back with pictures from my trip!

I'm home!  I think this is the longest I've been away from home and definitely the longest I've been away from my husband.  But it was a great trip!   We arrived back in Texas Monday night from New Zealand after a full day of traveling.  We left Christchurch Monday afternoon at 4:30 pm; flew to Auckland; headed over to the International Terminal (about an 8 minute walk) and had to go back through Security to catch our flight to San Francisco (13 hour flight!); went through Security and Customs in San Fran. and caught our flight to Houston; and lastly our final flight to San Antonio where we landed at 9:30 pm .... still Monday!  Whew!  We were glad to be home!  I stayed at Ashley's a couple of days to get some rest.  So far, the jet lag hasn't been as bad as I expected.  Of course, I have been going to bed about 11 and getting up around 9.

I'm going to try and share a few pictures with you for the next few weeks from some of our stops in New Zealand.

The Auckland Airport

We visited the Auckland Zoo and saw these giant tortoises!

We took the ferry to Waihike Island on Sunday from Auckland and visited several wineries.  These are some grapes hanging from the vine.

Having lunch and a glass of wine at one of the wineries.

Ashley and Courtney relaxing in our little apartment in Auckland.
Auckland Memorial - beautiful view of the city from here.
Baboons at the Auckland Zoo - one in tree and one on ground.  The one of the ground had covered himself up with a piece of cardboard.  We watched him climb up with the other one - carrying his cardboard and covering himself up again!
Love Birds at the Zoo

Our first gas fill up!  Wow!

SU has some exciting new products coming soon! New personalized stamps that you are going to love! And REALLY exciting new markers coming called Blendabilities. If you like Copic markers but don’t like the price, you will love these. Alcohol markers that blend beautifully and even a marker that removes color if you make a mistake. The chart shows the 12 color groups that will come in sets of 3 for 11.95 (US) So each dot you see below represents the 3 gradient colors that blend together. There is a set of 6 skin tones, and the color remover pen also. They are not refillable at this time so they can be a lower price point than other alcohol markers. They will not replace our regular markers – the alcohol markers dry too fast to use on your stamps or to use aqua painters with. Think of these as another color tool to add to your tool box. They are square and won’t roll off your table, bullet tip on one end, brush tip on the other. They recommend using the Memento Tuxedo Black pad (which we will carry also) and NOT using StazOn, which is an alcohol based pad.  When are they available? Not sure. They said this quarter, so maybe March? I’ll keep you posted.

Also - 2 new Photopolymer sets are coming out and some news about SU manufacturing them in our Kanab facility. They can be stinky to make and even opening my package at home requires some airing out but they stamp so nicely!  Photopolymer stamps will be included in the annual catalog as well as be available in our clear mount cases!

Happy Halloween

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

How is that for a cutie pie?  This is my nephew's little boy and is he cute!!

We have a low key Halloween at our house.  We don't get any trick or treaters at our door so I don't even buy candy or turn my lights on!  Halloween used to be one of my favorite holidays.  I would go all out with decorating the house when my kids were little - inside and out.  But now ... not so much.  Plus I don't have to sacrifice my diet by eating all the candy that Ashley and Jeff would bring home.  Ashley doesn't like chocolate so Sonny, Jeff and I would get all that goodness.  I can close my eyes and picture them coming home from trick or treating in their cute outfits and dumping their buckets out on the floor and then bargaining with each other and trading candy.  When they went to bed, Sonny and I had the job of testing the candy to make sure it was ok for them to eat!!

This year I did make a cute Halloween picture that I framed and have sitting in my kitchen.  I used paper, punches, stickers, embellishments, etc. that I found in my stash.

This was one of my favorite squares - candy corn made from the Pennant die.

Frankenstein looks pretty scary too - a little punch art and a black Sharpie helped.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Boston Red Sox for winning the World Series tonight!  We have friends that are really happy about now.

Today was not a great day for me!  I am hoping tomorrow is much better.  I started off with not being able to sleep well last night which is unusual for me.  I had to get up pretty early this morning to go to the Soup Kitchen.  We were scheduled to make taco salad today, a pretty easy meal or so I thought.  The local Chipolte restaurant had donated the meat so we put it in pans to heat up - it was already cooked so that was not a problem.  They were supposed to have the rest of the ingredients for us for the salad - cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream, salsa, chips, etc.  Well, the guy in charge couldn't remember what I had told him I was making so they didn't have anything taken out for us.  We were ok with lettuce and tomatoes - had plenty to cut up.  But the cheese and sour cream was frozen.  The cheese was actually an off-brand Velveeta type cheese - not cheddar that we could grate.  So we rigged up a double boiler and eventually got the cheese to melt.  The salsa they brought me consisted of 2 cans of salsa and 2 jars of marinara sauce!  I don't think so!  They tried to tell me it would be fine.  I was not putting marinara sauce in my salsa not to mention only 2 cans for approximately 150 people?????  So I rummaged around and found a box full of cans of Rotel tomatoes that I added to the salsa along with some plain tomatoes.  The sour cream ended up, after it melted, being the consistency of a thin cream.  Then there was the matter of the chips.  I was told a couple of weeks ago that they had large taco shells.  My plan was to just break them up in the salad.  Turns out what they called taco shells was actually flatbread.  Unbelievable!  So we took several packages and cut them up into strips, put a little cooking oil on them and salt and baked them.  They were ok.  Just as we were getting ready to serve, they brought us two boxes full of Dorito chips!  Much better!  We served about 135 people today and they all seemed to like the meal.   I don't think those people at the Soup Kitchen have ever been to Texas and had a real Tex-Mex Taco Salad.  It was nothing like we made today!

This past week was Leadership and Stampin' Up announced a couple of key things.  One being a kit for a guy.  They  introduced the new, very manly stamping kit: the Dude, You're Welcome! kit.
Guys don't always have the easiest time expressing themselves, but with the Dude, You're Welcome! kit, they'll have
  • Four wood-mount stamps (double-mounted) with the perfect sentiment for every occasion
  • Twelve 4" x 6" postcards in four different (manly) colors
  • Twelve gray envelopes
  • A Basic Gray Classic Stampin' Pad
  • An instructional guide (for the most novice stamper!)
Basically, the kit includes everything a dude needs to create the perfect manly card that any woman would adore, all packaged in an appropriately masculine box.

Check out the video:

Did you love the way he casually tosses aside the instructions?  Fortunately, this set doesn’t really need instructions for the man in your life to make you a great heartfelt card.  Order one of these sets for the man in your life.  He may not say so, but he’ll appreciate it and out of curiosity, he’ll use it!  (And, maybe if you’re really nice, he’ll let you use it, too!)  And you’re better half isn’t the only one who would benefit from this easy and fun set:  suggest it to the other men you know, too!

*******************************************************************************
That's not all the news!!  Stampin' Up has had a great response so far to their experiment with single stamps. So much so that they are making ten more never-before-seen images available as single stamps available through March 31, 2013.   And boy, are they cute ones!
