Goodbye, Farewell - April Blog Hop with NC Demos

Welcome to the April NC Demos Blog Hop.   If you just arrived from Melissa's blog, isn't her Kleenex box cool?!!

Our theme this month gave us a lot of leeway.  We could choose cards that feature the retiring products, Mother's Day cards or Feminine cards.  My choice was retiring products.  I lost about 18 stamp sets not to mention several thinlits and punches.  Many of them did not surprise me since they had been around a while but I am still going to miss many of them!

The first few cards I used a new technique that I had never done before - the Whitewash Technique.  There are several You-Tube videos that you can find to show the technique.  Basically, you stamp and emboss the image.  Next paint the image with the white re-inker (I used Aqua Brush.)  After that dries, add a little color to the image with a marker.  Then use your blender pen or Aqua Brush and blend the colors.  After it dries, you can go back and add a little more color as needed.

My first card uses Swallowtail stamp for the butterfly.  I also used the retiring DSP Typeset and the sentiment from And Many More (which is a great set for sentiments.)

The next two cards are made with Vivid Vases, a single stamp.

On this card, I also used the Curvy Corner Trio Punch which I love!

This beauty uses three retiring stamp sets - Trust God, Everything Eleanor and the single stamp, Blended Blooms as well as the retiring Candy Dots.

Next I did a couple of cards using the blending technique with my sponges using Serene Silhouettes.

Next it was time for a little watercoloring.  I spritzed my Shimmery White cardstock with water and then using my Aqua Brush, colored Melon Mambo, Tangelo Twist and Daffodil Delight all over the card.  I cut another piece of cardstock using the Hexagon Hive Thinlit and adhere it on top of the watercolored piece.  The sentiment is from Feels Good.

This is one of the cards we made in Stamp Club this month using the single stamp, Blooms for You.  The "seize the cake" sentiment is from the retiring set, Something to Say.

This final card also uses Blooms For You, Everything Eleanor (sentiment) and the Decorative Dots embossing folder.  This is one of the cards I made from pieces of the Paper Pumpkin April kit.

Hope you enjoyed my portion of the blog hop.  Continue along heading to Laurie Meir's blog next.

Stamp Club Cards

These are the cards we made this month for Stamp Club.

This one uses the Faux Tile technique.  Every one did a different color and chose the stamped image on the side from Everything Eleanor, Butterfly Basics or Thoughts and Prayers.

Faux Tile
This next card uses a fun fold that I found on-line.  The flowers are from Flower Shop and I used DSP from Back to Black.

This card was so much fun!  It fits into a business sized envelope.  I used the DSP from Sale-a-Bration, Irrestibly Yours.  I cut the balloon images with the Balloons Framelits and sponged them with In Colors.  I used the Little Letters Thinlets to cut HAPPY out of the balloons.  One of the gals punched her son's name out of the balloons instead.

I love the single stamp, Vivid Vases.  These are the two cards I made using them.  One of them uses DSP for the vases and the other uses markers.

Sonny and I had a relaxing weekend in the mountains.  My good friend, Judy, lent us the use of her cabin for the weekend so we enjoyed a delayed anniversary get-away.  The log cabin was so comfy with a creek running through the back of the property.  The weather was perfect.  It started raining on Sunday but we were packing up and heading home anyway.

Vivid Vases

I am again using the Vivid Vases stamp set.  It is a single stamp and is really versatile.  I haven't used it yet as a single vase but I'll be trying that soon.

For this card, I stamped the vases in Memento Black.  I masked the sentiment so I would just get the vases in my stamping.  Next I colored them using my Aqua Painter and the ink from the lid of the stamp pads.  I love to color this way.  You get just a wash of color and not real dark. I painted a little bit of blue below the vases.  Next I took a ruler and a thin Sharpie to make the straight line across the bottom of the card.  Next I masked the Vases and stamped the sentiment on the left bottom of the card.

I'm going back to the eye doctor Friday to see how well my cataract surgery went.  I'm also going to talk to him about doing my right eye.  I'd like both of my eyes to work together!!

Vivid Vases

Well, we are still waiting for the BIG storm!!  We got nothing today where I live.  I think Charlotte got an inch or two which was mostly melted by late afternoon.  But our big storm (named PAX) is supposed to hit tomorrow. (When did they start naming winter storms???)  The prediction is for heavy accumulation of snow, sleet and freezing rain Wednesday.  By heavy, the prediction is for 8-12 inches.  I can't imagine us having that much but guess that is why they are calling it "the storm of the century."  Seeing will be believing!!  Charlotte even had a press conference today about the storm!!  The predicted storm has already messed up my plans.  First thing this morning I got a call from my dentist to reschedule Wednesday's cleaning.  Shortly after that call, I got the call from my opthamologist canceling my cataract surgery that was scheduled for Thursday.  I've been rescheduled for next Tuesday which was actually my stamp club day but I am going to reschedule them in order to get this surgery done!  I guess I will be doing some stamping the next couple of days.

I love the single stamp in the Occasions catalog, Vivid Vases. It's a sweet little stamp ideal for quick and pretty cards. Here are two cards I made using the stamp.

For this one, I used the watercolor "blob" stamp from Hello Watercolor stamp set (one of my favorites from the Occasions catty) in Strawberry Slush for the background. You could also achieve a similar look by using the clear blocks.  I used different stamps on the vases, cut them out and glued them on - popping a few of them up with dimensionals and leaving a few of them flat.  I added a couple of pearls for accent.

On this card, I paper pieced the vases by stamping them onto DSP, cutting them out and adhering them to the vases I had stamped onto the white card stock.  I used the Naturals Ribbon on the side although I think I would like to try and die that ribbon lightly.  I dry embossed a few dashes down the side of the Wisteria Wonder card.

Love You to the Moon

Hope your weekend was a good one like mine was.  Saturday my two downlines (Marianne and Debbie) and I went to a Shoebox Swap at another demo's home in Conover.  There were 14 of us there and we made some great cards.  I got so many good ideas for stamp sets in the Occasions and Sale-a-Bration catalog.  I will be posting them in the next week.

These are the cards that Marianne and Debbie made.

Marianne - Vivid Vases from Occasions catty
I just love the saying "Love You to the Moon and Back."  I haven't decided if I'll get this stamp set but I do love this particular stamp for it's saying.

After the Stamp-a-Stack, we met the family for Angela's birthday dinner at Sagebrush in Mooresville.

Sunday I did a little house cleaning in my stamp room.  I worked on a few projects that I have had for a long time and just decided to put them together.  Not sure what I will do with them but they are made anyway!  Sonny and I watched the Super Bowl.  I was sure surprised with how badly Denver played.  I thought it would be a close game with the winner being determined in the last few minutes.  Boy, was I surprised!  I was pulling for the Seahawks even though I picked Denver to win in our football poll.  Saw a stat that said Denver has now lost more Super Bowls than any other team in history.   I didn't even win any of the Super Squares and had some good numbers.  I wasn't very impressed with the commercials this year.  Loved seeing the Budweiser and Coke commercials and my man, Bob Dylan in a commercial.  Lots of car companies this year.

Thought this was cute - with the white Bronco (representing Denver) being chased by the Seahawks!  Reminiscent of the O J Simpson chase many years ago.
